boston garden
The old building was noted for some of its unique features. One was that it never had any air conditioning. You may recall a playoff basketball game between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. The building was given a lot of the credit for the Celtics victory that day because the temperature inside reached into the 90’s. The Lakers played their home games in an air-conditioned building and just couldn't take the heat. Sometimes a Celtics game was scheduled, sandwiched between two Bruins games. Without sufficient time to melt and then freeze a new ice surface the ice surface was left frozen. The fabled Celtic parquet floor was assembled right on top of the ice.
Due to the success of the Celtics in the 1980s,
the Boston Garden was one of the most difficult buildings for visiting NBA
teams to play in. During the 1985-86 season, the Celtics were 40-1 at home,
setting the NBA record for home court mastery. They also finished the
post-season undefeated at home. Combined with the following regular season, the
Celtics' Garden record was an amazing 79-3 between the 1985-86 and 1986-87 regular seasons
